    Episode 7: Excel Function: RW.Tools.Group

    Episode 7 is here.

RW.Tools.Group builds Excel's outline grouping, the collapsible +/- sections into your report automatically, at generation time, straight from your data.

You place the formula in a helper column next to your rows (or a helper row next to your columns) and give each group an identifier or key.  Consecutive cells that share the same key become one group.  Use it for collapsible financial statements, reports delivered pre-collapsed to a summary view, or nested hierarchies with two helper columns.

    The syntax:

    =RW.Tools.Group(identifier, [axis], [visible], [additionalGroupDepth]

Only the identifier or key is required, axis is "rows" (default) or "columns", visible is "show" (default) or "hide", and additionalGroupDepth pushes a group to a deeper outline level.

One file is attached to help you review the formula and expected outcomes.  To try it simple create a job in Reportworq, use the file as the report source, select Excel in the distribution screen, and kick off a test run then open the output for review.

For our next video section we will be covering those report sheet option features (sheet suppression, exception check, etc).

Let us know what you think and if you have any questions! We would love your input on video topics as well.

    Thanks!
